Porsche Group C legends celebrated at Megaphonics event

The Megaphonics event is a highlight of the global Porsche events calendar, a static exhibition event that attracts the greatest Porsche race and road cars from around the world. The event takes place on the Boxengasse estate, a Porsche themed estate and events space near Bicester, Oxfordshire. This year it was bigger than ever with crowds of over 5,500 people and a hugely impressive selection of cars from Porsche’s history.

Group C legends took centre stage in the main exhibition building with an incredible 9 car display. This was one of the biggest displays of Porsche Group C cars in recent years and included the following examples from throughout the great era: 956-008, 956-101, 956-108, 962-004, 962-007, 962-008, 962-010, 962-163, 962-174.

We displayed our four Rothmans cars as a further tribute to the greatly missed Jochen Mass following on from the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Each of the four cars were driven by Jochen in period during his incredible Group C racing career. We started up 962-008 and ran it up in front of the crowds, putting on a fiery display!

962-010 was also on display, standing out in the iconic Shell Dunlop livery from the famous Porsche vs Jaguar battle at Le Mans ’88. This car finished 2nd overall in ’88 but caries one of the most incredible stories from the Group C era.

Other significant cars on display included the Gulf 917 that featured in the iconic Le Mans film with Steve McQueen, Porsche Carrera RSR Turbo 2.1, Porsche 993 Turbo ‘The Last Waltz’ (the last air-cooled 911 to leave the factory), a display of 904, 906,908 and 910 models and far far more. There really were too many significant Porsches in attendance to list.

Outside of the feature display areas were Porsche parking sections for enthusiasts separated into air-cooled and water-cooled and filled with Porsche road cars as far as the eye could see.

The event really was a hit for all things Porsche culture and illustrates just why the Porsche brand is so special.
